Bernard Paul Ott, 100, passed away on May 16, 2021, following a brief illness. He was born in Massillon on June 3, 1920 to Albert and Emma (Yast) Ott. Bernard was a World War II veteran serving in The United States Army, he received four Bronze Campaign Stars, two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and a Presidential Citation for Bravery for his service during the Battle of the Bulge. In 2012 he was awarded The Knight of The Legion of Honor from the French Government for his service during World War II. After his service, he returned to work. He had worked at several area factories and eventually became a General Forman at Shafer Valve in Orrville, from where he retired. He was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church, and The 44th Infantry Division Association. Bernard was a dedicated family man and enjoyed tinkering with cars. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Paul) Hodgson and Kathleen Herron; two grandchildren, Brett (Laura) Hodgson and Kelly (James) Cole; and four great-grandchildren, Wells, Lindy, Brady and Bentley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice (Zwick) Ott; a son, Daniel Ott; granddaughter, Christina Herron; and a son-in-law, Donald Herron The family will gather privately on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at The Paquelet Funeral Home and process to St. Mary’s Catholic Church for a Public Mass of Christian Burial, Celebrated by Fr. Brian Cline at 10:30am, burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Continuing with COVID-19 precautions, all attending will be asked to follow proper social distancing protocol and masks are required. If you are not feeling well, or if you have a compromised immune system, you are encouraged to stay home.
