Bernard “Bernie” N. Baumann, 71, of Massillon, passed away on January 1, 2018 with his family by his side. Bernie was born in Munich, Germany on June 5, 1946 to the late Ludwig and Rita (Schwartz-Fischer) Baumann. He emigrated from Munich with his family at age 10. Bernie grew up in the Detroit area and after proudly serving his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, he returned and worked for General Motors where he had ten years of service. Also in Michigan, he met Donna Pytlak and they married on October 14, 1972 and shared 45 wonderful years together. He moved to Wisconsin in 1976 to begin working in the packaging industry. While there, his children were born and later he graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering with a bachelor’s degree in science for Industrial Management. His career later took the family to Washington State before settling in Massillon. Bernie worked for Crown, Cork & Seal where he was an area manager and retired after 38 years. He was also a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Canton. Some of Bernie’s favorite hobbies included planning and taking trips, wine tasting and he was an avid sports enthusiast. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Donna; son Matthew (Catherine) Baumann and daughter Nicole Baumann; grandchildren Margaret and Benjamin Baumann. A celebration of Bernie’s life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 1 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 3430 St. Michaels Blvd NW, Canton, OH 44718. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
