Bernard D. Ben Geibel, age 90 of Massillon, died on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Amherst Meadows. He was born on March 1, 1918 in Pleasant City, Ohio and was the son of the late John and Frances (Kirkbride) Geibel. He was a Massillon resident since 1930. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marines. In 1980, he retired from Republic Steel following 40 years of service. He was a member of the N.R.A., volunteered with the Boy Scouts and enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Byesville, Ohio. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian J. Geibel in 1994 and his brother James Geibel. He is survived by his daughter, Bernice E. (Robert) Latham of Massillon, his grandchildren, Robyn Kraft of Massillon, Brad Latham of Uniontown and Bridget Shilling of Massillon, 4 great grandchildren, his sisters, Phyllis J. Lowther of Pennsylvania and Betty Mathers, Ruth Reese, Clara Nickerson and Kate Nichols and his brothers, Raymond Geibel, Charles Geibel and Jesse Geibel all of Massillon and John Geibel of New Mexico. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 PM and on Thursday one hour before the service.
