Bazel Simmons, age 90 of Massillon, went to be with the Lord on Thursday afternoon from Massillon Community Hospital following an extended illness. He was born March 2, 1915 in Sutton, WV, to Abe and Anna Belle (Ocheltree) Simmons. He was a charter member of Massillon Baptist Temple where he had served as a Sunday School Teacher, usher, choir member and trustee. He was also a member of the Sociable Sixties at the church. He was a retiree of Republic Steel and a World War II veteran. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Wanetta Simmons; a daughter, Roberta, brothers, Leo and Homer, sisters Dorothy and Bonnie, grandchildren, Aaron Dale and Jo Ann Lynn Nettleton. He is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Simmons of Massillon, and Susan (Nathaniel) Ferguson of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada; special brother and sister-in-laws, Denzil and Jo Ann Bleigh of Buckhannon, WV; grandchildren, David (Mellissia) Nettleton of Massillon, David (Laurie) Ferguson of Drayton Plains, Alberta, Canada; Darlene (Joe) Klink of Massillon, and Nadine (Chris) Messick of New Norway, Alberta, Canada; 10 great grandchildren, 4 nieces; 7 nephews. Great nieces and nephews and cousins conclude his survivors as well as many beloved and long-time church family friends. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at the Massillon Baptist Temple with Pastor Larry L. Emery, officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday 2-4 PM at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services on Monday at the church. Interment will take place at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
