Barbara S. "Bobby" Borton, 90, of Massillon, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023.
She was born on June 24, 1933, in Louisville, Kentucky. She grew up in New Jersey but spent most of her life in Ohio where she raised her family.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Sue) Borton, Stephen Borton, and Elizabeth (Tony Boggio) Hedrick; grandchildren, Zachary Hedrick, Joshua Hedrick, Samantha Boggio, and Jake Borton; great-grandchildren, Camdyn, Kenzleigh, and Luka Hedrick; and her sister, Margaret Foster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Howard Surbeck and her husband of 46 years, John Borton.
She graduated from Ohio State University. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Bobby was a dietitian at Doctor's Hospital and also taught school in the Perry Local District for 18 years.
She was a member of the Massillon Museum Board, Massillon Garden Club, Pi Beta Phi Alumni Club of Canton, and Massillon Woman's Club. She was member of Central Presbyterian Church where she served as a Trustee, an Elder, and served on the church session.
Bobby dearly loved her family, her friends, her church as well as her many students who were in her classes. She had a passion for her wild birds and beautiful flowers. She was a loyal "Buckeye" fan and cheered the team each season. She often attended her grandchildren's sporting events. She enjoyed reading, theater, needlework, and traveling with her lifelong friend, Becky Schultz.
There was a warmth and kindness about her that can't be put into words. She spoke to everyone as if they were her friends with a genuine desire to make them smile and laugh. As a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and teacher, all children were hers to embrace, guide, love, and nurture. God couldn't put a person on this earth who loved more unconditionally.
A Celebration of Bobby's life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 12 pm. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 10 am -12 pm (Noon) before the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church.
