Barbara L. Chapis, age 79, passed peacefully on September 7, 2021. She was born on January 3, 1942, in Massillon, Ohio. She attended Saint Mary Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1960. She immediately began work as a shorthand stenographer and secretary where she worked for many different companies, schools, and churches during her lifetime. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Rick, on June 12, 1965, she began a full life raising children, working, and enjoying family life for over 56 years of married life. Rick has lost his “Barbie Doll” and the world has lost a passionate “prayer warrior” for God and many friends and acquaintances. She was a loving person with a warm smile to all she knew and met. Barb loved dancing, socializing with friends, shopping for unique clothes, and watching her family grow. She followed her children and grandchildren in all of their school and athletic endeavors with loving support, encouragement, and pride. The world has lost a beautiful person who spread God’s love to all as a compassionate, warm, and giving Catholic person. We know she is now in heaven dancing and decked out in purple and sparkles from head to toe. She was a member of many catholic churches as the family lived and worked in several states and overseas in Australia. For the last 18 years, she has been a member of St. Mary Church, where she worked as a secretary and was known for her warm and friendly disposition to all she met in person and on the phone. Father Ed liked to call her the “ambassador” for the church. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Edward Hunter and sister, Lucille Hunter. She is survived by her loving husband Rick, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage; children Michael (Nicole) Chapis, Christine (Gordon) Loader, and David (Michelle) Chapis; grandchildren, Brett (Kristen), Dylan, Brandon, Lexi, Zachary, Madison, Brydon, and Keiren; sister, Sister Mary Hunter; and brothers William (Sally) Hunter and Jim (Liz) Hunter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fr. Edward Gretchko, and Fr. Thomas Bishop con celebrating. Barbara will be inurned at Calvary Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Memorial Fund.
