Barbara A. Cortes

Barbara A. Cortes, age 81 of Massillon, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013. She was born March 14, 1931 in Massillon. She was predeceased by her parents James and Helen (Burke) Mercer, a sister Dorothy Wesley and a brother George Mercer. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School. She went on to work at the former Massillon Community Hospital. From 1960-62 she attended the Metropolitan School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY. Survivors include three sons, Tomas (Charissa) R. Cortes, Miguel (Terri) Cortes and Juan Cortes, eight grandchildren: Maddy, Tori, Lexi, Zach, Sam, Sjuan, J'Lis and Jasmine and two brothers Roland Mercer and James Mercer. Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 until the service. Friends will be received at 220 4th St. NE, Floor 1, Massillon, from 2-6 PM on Sunday.
