Aurelia "Millie" Maccartney

May 10, 1935 — February 17, 2021

Aurelia "Millie" Miller Markowsky MacCartney, age 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 17, 2021. She was born in Massillon, Ohio, on May 10, 1935, to the late Nicholas and Veronica (Oprea)Miller. Her parents immigrated from Romania. Millie was very proud of her Romanian heritage. She graduated from Washington High School in 1953. Afterward, she became employed by E. W. Bliss Co., then St. George Romanian Orthodox Church, and eventually A.L. DeSanctis, M.D. After her marriage to Ian McCartney (also a ’53 Washington High grad) in 1983, she moved to Hollywood, Florida, where Ian had been residing at the time. She then worked for 15 years at Caduceus Medical Malpractice Insurance, Fort Lauderdale. After her husband, Ian passed away in 2010, she came home to the Massillon area where she would be close to her family and her many friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Nick Miller (Sylvia, deceased), John Miller (Donna, deceased), and Earl Miller (Margaret, deceased) and her sister Virginia (Jenny) Bancioiu. She is survived by her sister Mary Hampu (Andrew, deceased), her daughters Kathy (Jeff) Lorenzo, Sherry Markowsky Klein, her son Ronald B. Markowsky, stepdaughter Gwynne MacCartney (John Bielefeldt), stepson Robert (Pam) MacCartney, brother-in-law Constantin Bancioiu, former husband Ronald W. Markowsky, and very special dear friends for over 60 years, Bob and Peg Dottavio. She is also survived by grandchildren Braden Cassidy, Alicia Schroeder, Donald (Niki) Klein, April Stavroff (Erin Apostalides), Leah (Chris) McCune, and great-grandchildren Olivia Boone, Jordyn, and Hayden Apostalides, and Jacob Archibald. Millie had an outgoing personality and enjoyed making people laugh. She looked forward to get-togethers with family, friends and meeting new people. While living in Florida, Millie met former classmates of E. A. Jones Junior High School at a “Massillon Day” picnic and they began planning some of the famous Jones School reunions. She volunteered at many Jones School and Washington High-Class Reunions, Class luncheons, and Class birthday parties. Special thanks to the staff at Danbury of Massillon for the wonderful care and friendship they gave Mom. A Celebration of Millie’s life will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 4 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Father Ian Pacurar from Presentation of Our Lord Romanian Orthodox Church in Akron will be officiating.
