Arnold W. “Nook” Dewald age 91 of Massillon, passed away Sunday at Affinity Medical Center - Massillon Campus. He was born on November 2, 1915 in Ambridge, Pa. to the late Edward and Wilhamenia (Gangle) Dewald. Nook was a WWII United States Army Veteran serving in 657th Engineer Topographical Battalion in 1944 in Europe and Japan, and also specializing as a German Language Interpreter. He had worked for Griscom – Russell, Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton in the drafting and engineering departments, employed as an instructor at Wayne County Joint Vocational School and later retired from Massillon City Schools as a teacher. Nook was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and Clinton Lodge #47 F. & A. M. He was an avid Tigers Fan and enjoyed collecting antiques especially antique oil lamps. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers; Edward and Albert Dewald. Nook is survived by his wife, Marian L. (Lash) Dewald with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage on January 30, 2007, sons and daughter-in-law; William Dewald of Massillon and Dan (Judy) Dewald of Mt. Vernon, grandchildren; Christopher and Timothy Dewald, Debra (Kevin) Spearman, great grandchildren; Olivia and Samantha Spearman. Funeral services celebrating Nook’s life will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Arnold – Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon with Rev. R. H. “Bob” Moore officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the services on Thursday. Clinton Lodge #47 F. &. A. M. will conduct Masonic service Thursday at 9:30 AM.
