Andrew S. Pelger, of Massillon, husband, father, and grandfather passed away just four days before his 92nd birthday. Andrew was born on February 12, 1919 in Canton the son of the late John and Regina (Maurer) Pelger. Andrew lived in the area his entire life. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran serving during WWII in the South Pacific. He worked for Babcock and Wilcox retiring in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a member of The New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene in Canton. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, painting, gardening, and spending time outdoors. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters John, William, Regina, Dorothy, Mary and Thelma. He is survived by his wife Velma (Gantz) Pelger whom he married on September 9, 1941; his children and their spouses Gary (Nancy) Pelger and Melinda (Mark) Changet; his granddaughters Monica and Amanda Changet and Jennifer (Ryan) Jennings; his great-granddaughter Lillian Jennings and his brother and sister-in-law Fred (Marlene) Pelger. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 12 PM at The New Beginning Church of the Nazarene: 5640 Portage St. NW, N. Canton, OH 44720 with Rev. Ben Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
