Andrew ‘Andy’ Bednar III, age 81 of Massillon, passed away January 4, 2010 at Affinity Medical Center. Andy was born February 5, 1928 in Massillon to the late Andrew & Susan (Sedjo) Bednar. He was a 1945 graduate of Washington High School and served in the US Navy. Andy retired from the Massillon Post Office in 1988. He is a member of St. John Lutheran Church, president of the St. John Retirees Group, president of the South East Hill Gang, board member of the United Lutheran Society #126, secretary-treasurer of local ULS, and the American Legion Post #221. He will be remembered for his activities; bowling, golf, gardening and being a long time blood donor. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie & Gary Bednar and a son-in-law, David Matthews. Andy is survived by his wife Mildred ‘Millie’ (Listiak) Bednar with whom he shared 56 years of marriage on September 26th; three daughters, Robin (Scott) Shoemaker, Gail (Jeff) Lombardi and Melanie (Charlie) Kilgore; five sisters, Betty Hattery, Evelyn Kulick, Lois (Glenn) Tissot, Nancy (David) Miller, Linda Smer; brother, Richard Bednar; sister-in-laws, Shirley Bednar, Janet (Donald) Reiter, Sandy (Chuck) Sheets; 10 grandchildren, Christina Alt, Charles Kleve, Amber Schroeder, Steven Schroeder, Megan Brumbaugh, Ory Shoemaker, Jeffery Lombardi, Jacy Lombardi, Emily Matthews, Erica Matthews; four great grandchildren, Madison, Bailey, Beauregard and Madelyn; aunt, Pauline Snyder and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be 10 AM Friday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon, Rev. Edd Matako will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Memory Garden.
