Amelia Galindo

AMELIA GALINDO, 88, of Massillon, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 20th. Mae, as she was called, was born in Steubenville, OH, on January 3, 1919, to the late Hermanildo and Fabiana Torrealday Camiruaga. She graduated in 1937 from Steubenville High School and that same year married the love of her life, Francisco Galindo; they shared 51 years of marriage until his passing in 1988. She worked for many years at Woolworth Five & Ten and Ekco Aluminum. A long-time member of the Spanish-American Women's Club in Canton, she was very proud of her Basque heritage. Most of all, she was very proud of and loved her family with all her heart. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Felix Dieguez; daughter, Teresa; son, Robert; brothers, Louis Dieguez and Michael Dieguez. She is survived by a son Frank (Betty) Galindo of Massillon; daughters, Anita Jewett of Massillon and Mary (Eric) Shank of Dalton; grandchildren, Pamela (Mark) Smith, Robert (Kelly) Galindo, Steve (Martha) Galindo, Tiffany (Joe) Clemente, Theresa (Bob) Siegrist, JeriLyn (Milan) Hasanaj, Ashley Turskey and Craig Turskey; and eleven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Esperanza Gogul Escott of Westerville, OH, and her special friend, Jim Katich of Canton. The family will receive friends from 9AM until 9:45 AM Saturday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Amelia's name may be made to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service, 845 - 8th St. NE, Suite One, Massillon, OH.
