Alvin Dale Fasnacht, age 84 of Perry Township, passed away on Saturday, March 03, 2012 in Mercy Medical Center from an extended illness. He was born on August 1, 1927 in Massillon City Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin H. and Esther M. (Boron) Fasnacht and wife Leora (Baker) with whom he entered into marriage on September 8, 1955. Dale and Leora were members of First Christian Church of Massillon. Dale attended Genoa Elementary, Longfellow Junior High School and Massillon High School. Thereafter he followed in his father's footsteps by becoming a farmer, thresher, and sawyer. Like his father, Dale liked to conduct business the old fashioned way using a firm handshake, steam engine, threshing machine and wagons. In October of 1948, Dale bought his first piece of farm equipment, a Huber threshing machine, from a thresher in Perry Township. He pulled it home using his father's Huber tractor, refurbished it and operated the thresher until retirement. Dale donated his Huber to Perry Township to be part of the Fasnacht Park which was previously the Fasnacht homestead for 83 years. Survivors include a brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and many cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at the First Christian Church of Massillon with Rev. Dr. John States officiating. Friends will be received from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery. The Paquelet Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dale's memory to the First Christian Church, 1020 Wales Road, NE, Massillon, OH 44646.
