Alton P. Trammell was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 29, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on February 7, 1926 in Birmingham, AL to the late Tyler and Julia (Zachery) Trammell. He was a United States WWII Army veteran and a foreman /steel worker for Massillon Steel Casting for over 44 years before retiring. He loved to watch the preaching of Bishop T.D. Jakes, Judge Judy, old westerns and black / white movies. He also enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers whenever they were playing and pro golf. In his younger years he was an avid pool player and known as 'Big Al'. He read the Repository daily and worked the crossword puzzle. He was blessed to be married to Louise (Edwards) Trammell and Ida Mae (Simms) Trammell. Through this union they had (12) beautiful children. Jackie Edwards, Velinda (Kirk) Braithwaite, Phillip Trammell all of Massillon, Alton S. (Carol) Trammell of Nevada, Darnell Trammell of Massillon, Julian (Donna) Trammell of Columbus OH, Bishop Dr. Darlene Harris, Taryn (Victor) Trammell and Vincent Trammell all of California and Jon Trammell of the residence; sister-in-laws, Hattie Trammell of Massillon, and Shirley (Leroy) Alexander, Detroit, MI; brother-in-laws, Vernon (Karen) Edwards and Carlton Elder of Massillon, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by both wives; children, Lavonne Roberson and Erskien Trammell; brothers, Homer and Charles Trammell; and sisters, Mary Armakus and Ethel Autrey. A Home Going Celebration will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 12 p.m. (NOON) at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Massillon. Burial will follow at Massillon Cemetery.
