Alma Marie Janata, 96, passed away following an extended illness. She was born in New Brunswick, Canada on May 8, 1921 to the late Joseph and Agnes (Parent) Poirier and came to the U.S. in 1940 and settled in Massillon in 1949. She retired from EATON CORP in 1982. Alma was an avid knitter, gardener and Bingo player. She loved flowers and cooking. Alma was of the Catholic faith. She is survived by her grandchildren, Christine (James) Menne of Westerville and Brian (Lea) Marburger of Brewster; great-grandchildren, Grace Ann Menne and Erin Bernhardt; and a son-in-law, Dale Marburger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Thomas Janata; daughter, Ann Marie Marburger; daughter-in-law, Beverly Marburger; two sisters, Marie White and Rita Gaudreau; and two brothers, Jean Poirier, and Omer Savoie. Family and friends will gather at Paquelet Funeral Home, Massillon, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10am for a celebration of her life to be held at 11am in the funeral home.
