Alexandra M. Slates

Alexandra M. Slates, age 22 of Richville passed away January 11, 2011 as the result of an automobile accident. Alex was born November 29, 1988 in Canton to Randal & Suzanne (Mertes) Slates. Alex was a 2007 graduate of Perry High School and currently a senior at Walsh University. She was in the BAMA Program (Bachelors & Masters Degree) for Psychology and Counseling; and president of Psi Chi Psychology Honors Program. Alex will be remembered for helping kids; a passion of hers was softball, both playing and mentoring others. She helped with the Treehouse Kidz at Rivertree Christian Church; her Christian Faith was very important. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Ruth Slates and a favorite Aunt & Uncle, Mina & Doc Gump. Alex is survived by her parents Randy & Sue Slates of the residence; two sisters, Samantha (Scott) Ayers & Tatum Slates; grandparents: Marjorie (Fred) Johnson, Fred (Liz) Mertes and Don Slates; great grandmother, Kathleen Stevens; a favorite uncle, Fred Mertes, her boyfriend, David Wilson and a very special friend, Scarlet Rue. In addition, there are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends. A Remembrance of Alex’s Life will be 10:30 AM Saturday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. The Rev. Jason Lantz & Rev. Clifford Price will officiate. Her final resting place will be Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Friday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
