Al Kenneth Pierce, 83, of Massillon, Ohio, was called home on September 28, 2024. He was born in Brickeys, Arkansas on February 21, 1941 to the late Joseph and Ida B (Askew) Pierce.
Al was a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1959. He was co-captain of the 1958 Massillon Tigers football team where he played wide receiver and cornerback. Al was also a track and field District Champion in the high jump. He began his employment at Massillon City Hospital and attended college at Canton Area Technical School in Canton, Ohio, where he majored in Electrical Technology and received an Associates Degree in Electrical/ Electronic Technology in June of 1966. He was also elected President of the Student Council for the 1965-66 school year. Soon after, he started his employment at Timken Research as a Lab Technician. Al completed a career spanning 37 years, retiring as Senior Electronics Analyst in 2003.
One of the gifts Al developed over the years was his ability to visualize and apply mechanical applications with an electronic approach to problem solving and provide appropriate mechanical designs. As an integral part of Timken Research, Al was chosen to head a team to perform Strain Gauge testing at Pikes Peak, the highest summit in the southern Rocky Mountains.
Al enjoyed astronomy, science, yard work and music with experience as a DJ. Al was thoughtful, insightful, and constantly learning. He enjoyed spending time with his family while investing countless hours with his nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, brother, and uncle. He thought the world of his family, as they did in return. Al could be described as a researcher, a teacher, and had a keen eye for details. He made spending time with him a pleasurable learning experience.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Asrean Pierce; brothers, Fletcher (Mary) Pierce, Floyd “Duke” Pierce; sister-in-law Barbara (Adams) Pierce; and many of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home from 10:00 am to 12:00pm, Thursday, October 10, 2024. A Homegoing services will be held at 12:00 pm, Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Massillon Cemetery.
