Agnes Joyce Baum

Agnes Joyce (Bowles) Baum began her journey back to God on November 15. Her wish of dying at home was fulfilled, surrounded for the past several weeks by her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and of course dogs and cats. She led the procession to the Gates of Heaven. Agnes' life, which began on November 23, 1921 in Canton, Ohio, had many chapters. Despite the loss of her first husband, Frank Fenton Evans and oldest son, Mark Davis Evans, she never stopped serving her God and loving her family. She put her faith in God despite her pain and lived her life gracefully and with gratitude. Agnes indeed was a shining light. She dedicated her life to loving her second husband, Dr. Harvey Baum and seven children, Frank Bowles Evans (Patricia) of Cincinnati; Michael Harvey Baum (Mary Lou) of Naples, Florida; Joyce Ann Wilhelm (Gary), John Forrest Baum (Dr. Elizabeth); Bonaventura Lenos (George); Mary Elizabeth Baum, and Mary Frances Meyer (Ken); who all reside in the area. Agnes was also blessed with the opportunity to love her 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Her spirit was larger than life and she taught us all to live more fully every day. During her journey, she graduated from Mt. Marie Academy and attended Kent State University. She worked as a Respiratory Therapist for Massillon City Hospital, and became the first employee of Bethany Nursing Home. She also managed to assist Harvey with surgery and the overall operation of his veterinary practice. Agnes always found time to serve her church, St. Mary's and St. Barbara's of Massillon. One of her joys was an annual cookout by the St. Mary's Mr. and Mrs. Club for the St. John's Villa Orphanage of Carrollton. Agnes was also co-founder of the Agathon Kennel Club and volunteered for many years with the Canal Fulton Dinner Theatre. Although our world may be a little dimmer without Agnes, memories will continue to illuminate all of her family and friends for the remainder of their lives. Her light will now further brighten the heavens as she reunites with the other family members who preceded her; parents Forrest and Bonaventura (Dober), affectionately known to the family as Bompi and Momu: sister Dorothea Elizabeth (Magley) and her husband, George, and of course her beloved Frank, Harvey & Mark. Agnes' life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese's Parish of Brewster concelebrated by Father Robert Heinz, Father Thomas Cebula, and Monsignor Lewis Gaetano. The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Catholic Charities.
