Velma Lucille Deitrick, 89, of Massillon, passed away September 20, 2024, she was born in Massillon, Ohio on September 9, 1935 to the late Robert and Lucille Berry.
Velma was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Canton Township. She was also a member of the Western Reserve Dalmatian Club, where she would show her Dalmatians receiving multiple show ribbons and awards. She also bred Dalmatians for many years. Velma stood up for what she believed in, she would attend marches and protests to make change. She was known for her great cooking and baking, especially her legendary Macaroni Salad, Fudge, and Lasagna. Velma was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother. She made everyone she cared about feel like family, and she will live on in their hearts forever.
Velma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl F. Deitrick Sr.; children, Paula Heighton, James Deitrick and Derry Deitrick; granddaughter, Melissa Moore; granddaughter in-law, Patrice Warfield; sisters, Evelyn Bordner and Marge Hershey; as well as 7 of her furry companions.
She is survived by her children, Earl Deitrick, Jr., Linda Deitrick, and Ron (Bonnie) Deitrick; grandchildren, Scott Warfield, Crystal (Kurt) Miner, Heather Deitrick, and Christopher Deitrick; great-grandchildren, Zahria Moore, Malia Stanley, Leahna Warfield, James Miner, Kohlten Miner and Europa Warfield.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on September 26, 2024 at Paquelet Funeral Home, where services will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Warstler Cemetery.
