Thomas William Heather, age 83 of Jackson Twp. passed away July 3, 2015 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born in Massillon on June 16, 1932 to the late Lawrence & Dorothy (Hamel) Heather. Tom was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School and then served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from the Timken Company after 32 years of service. He worked for the former Demmer Hardware and was a caretaker of St. Mary's Cemetery. He was a member of K of C #554 and the Fourth Degree, K of C Soup Kitchen and American Legion Post #221. Tom loved bowling, golf, football, playing cards, woodworking and being with family and friends. In addition to his parents, his sister Lois White and sister in law Dianne Heather preceded him in death. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Joann (Pandin) Heather with whom he would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on July 11th. They have five children: Sue Bachtel, Jeff (Debbie) Heather, Tammy (Dennis) Selogy, John Heather, and Steve (Michelle) Heather; a brother Jerry Heather and a sister in law Shirley Zurcher. There are fourteen grandchildren: Charles (Nicole) Heather, Baltimore, MD., Jason (Joanna) Bachtel, US Air Force, Sumter, SC, Jenni Bachtel, Tiffany (Vlad) Petrovski, Columbus, OH, John Zachary (Stacy) Heather, Northfield, OH, Sabrina Heather, CA, Aaron (Julia) Mossgrove, US Marines, Japan, Kayla Mossgrove, Canton, OH, Cynthia Bailey, Euclid, OH, Brianna Heather, Akron, OH, Matthew Lowry, Marines, Pensacola, FL, Jonathan Lowry, Akron, OH, Allyssa Heather and Christopher Selogy. There are five great grandchildren: Shaun Bachtel, Britton Knotts, Allianna Bayda, Joan Anderson, Gabe McIntyre and one more soon to be. And many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, his pastor Fr. Edward Gretchko will officiate. His final resting place will be Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home. The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Aultman Hospital, Aultman Hospice and the Rose Lane Care Center.
