Shirley J. Hill

Shirley J. Hill, age 75 of Massillon, OH, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015. Shirley was born on May 18, 1940 in Graham, AL the daughter of the late Seymour and Elsie Mae (Pittman) Stephens. Shirley moved here to Massillon in 1961 and worked at Ekco Housewares retiring in 1987. She did seasonal work for the past 7 years at Universal Screen Arts in Hudson. Shirley was a member of New Life Tabernacle Church and was also very active with the Massillon Salvation Army. She was a member of their Women's Home League and also headed up their clothing drive program and volunteered with ringing the kettlebells and collecting donations during the Christmas holiday season. She loved cooking, fashionable clothing, traveling, caring for others' children, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Tahara Lynn Hill and her brothers, Theodore and Thurman Stephens. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Eyvonne Hill, Sharon (Alphonso) Green, Ernest (Michelle) Hill, and Raquel (Michael) Harris; her grandchildren, Elise and Anthony Burrows, Stephon and Shatara Hill, Jalessa and Shanice Brown, Sabryn Hill and Sydney Harris; sisters, Bennie Cheeks, Irene (Calvin) Ector and Carolyn (Jesse Ray) Dix; and a host of nieces and nephews. A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 11 a.m. at The Salvation Army: 315 - 6th Street N.E., Massillon. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
