Sandy Aegerter, 75, passed away on August 14, 2017 surrounded by her family in a Chicago area hospital near her daughter’s home, where she had been visiting. A native of Sandusky, Ohio, Sandy and her husband, Henry, settled in Massillon, where she had become the resonant anchor of the choir’s alto section and a dedicated vestry member at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. With Henry, Sandy enjoyed long distance bicycle trips in Ohio and Wisconsin and was an avid supporter of the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Always a strong role model, she paired athleticism with style before it was a common combination. She was also an avid runner, completing two full marathons and three half marathons, along with numerous 5K races. Sandy enhanced countless lives during decades as Massillon Family YMCA swimming and fitness instructor. Her wholesome lifestyle and personal fortitude inspired class participants, family and friends. Her sincere interest in the well-being of those who attended her classes bonded her early exercise session into an enduring group of friends. A talented seamstress and home decorator, Sandy served on the YMCA/YWCA board, volunteered in several Massillon Museum leadership positions, raised funds via bicycle poker runs and century rides for Massillon Greenways, Inc. (MAGI) and the Ohio and Erie Canalway Coaltition, she served as Massillon City Treasurer and contributed time and expertise for community projects. Above all she was dedicated to her family. Henry and Sandy traveled frequently, favoring North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Mexico and the Caribbean, recently celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in Punta Cana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jean Spiegel, brother Robert Spiegel and grandson Andrew Aegerter. She is survived by her husband Henry; sons Chris (Jackie) Aegerter, Seth Aegerter (Anna Papes) and Chris (Nancy) Groh; daughter Danielle (Jim) Reed; granddaughters Tatum, Joselyn, Ainsley, Erin and Kylie; grandson Sam and sisters Sharon (Oliver) Stout and Melissa (John) Rimer. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home on Friday, September 1st from 6-8 pm. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at St. Timothy’s Church on Saturday, September 2nd at 11:00 am with additional visitation one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to MAGI and St. Timothy’s Church to perpetuate Sandy’s memory and legacy.
