Ronald Halter, 84 of Massillon, passed away at his home on Friday, December 29, 2017 with his family at his side. He was born on September 26, 1933 in Massillon and was the son of the late Elmer and Frances (Balmat) Halter. Following graduation from Central Catholic High School, he served his country with the Military Police in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict era. For more than 60 years, Ron and his army buddies have met each year to rekindle their longtime friendship. He then went on to work for the city of Massillon with the Wastewater Treatment Department, retiring as their Manager/superintendent. Ron was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the K. of C. #554. He was very active in the community and along with his wife Nancy was instrumental in starting the 4th of July Picnic in the Park. He was an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan. Along with his parents Ron was preceded in death by his infant son John Halter and his brother Edmund Halter. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy (Ertle) Halter, his sons, Martin (Lori) Halter and Ted Halter, his grandchildren, Dylan (Megan) Halter and London Halter, his great grandson Luke Halter and his sister Joan Halter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.
