Patrick J. Doherty, 65 of Massillon, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Affinity Medical Center with his family at his side. He was born on November 25, 1948 in Akron, Ohio and was the son of the late Robert Doherty and the late Mary Rita (MacIlduff) Doherty. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1966 and went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in accounting from University of Akron in 1970. While there he participated in the ROTC program. He had been employed at Children's Hospital in Akron with the Finance Department for 39 years. Pat was a member of the Massillon Tiger Booster Club and had been a member of the Tiger Band Parents. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen A. (Saylor) Doherty, whom he married on May 14, 1977, his children, Shaun (Jeanna) Doherty, D.D.S., Erin Doherty and Cody DeVault, his grandchildren, Felicia and Collin Doherty, his brother, Michael Doherty and his sister Maureen Dunifer. A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday at 10:30 A.M at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Edward Gretchko officiating. There will be no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Burn Unit at Children's Hospital, 1 Perkins Square, Akron, OH 44308.
