Omer D. Steffen

Omer D. Steffen, age 97 of Massillon, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. He was born on December 15, 1919 in Dalton, Ohio and was the son of the late Simon and Ella (Augsburger) Steffen. Following graduating from Dalton High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He married the former Laura B. Stockburger. They were married for 58 years and they raised five children. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his brother’s Lee Steffen and George Steffen and his sister Grace Bytheway. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Greg and Charlotte Steffen, Cheryl and Mark Carter, Karen Steffen, Bruce and Charlotte Steffen and Jon and Leslie Steffen. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Melissa and J.B. Babcock, Heather and Jake Kandel, Trevor and Brandi Steffen, Travis Steffen, Michael Carter, Jenna and Matt Hodge, Chris and Brianne Steffen, Jeffrey and Kellie Ballenger and Curtis Ballenger and 19 great grandchildren. A service to celebrate Omer’s life will take place on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
