Melvin D. Rupert, 85 of Massillon, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 3, 2015. Melvin was born on September 1, 1929 in Justus, the son of the late Walter E. and Ruth E. (Strohl) Rupert. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Melvin was a U.S. Army veteran serving our country proudly during the Korean War. He traveled a board the U.S.N.S. General Leroy Eltinge (T-Ap154). Melvin worked at Nickels Bakery for 40 years never missing a day of work. He loved his church, Massillon Church of Christ. He enjoyed watching the Browns, Indians, Cavaliers, and the Buckeyes. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Dean, Glen, Roy and Maynard Rupert. He is survived by his sisters, Cleo Allen of Massillon and Ruth (William) Moulos of Navarre and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Melvin's life will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Evangelist Glen Hawkins will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Union Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
