Mardelle Elizabeth Lee

April 14, 1923 — January 27, 2021

Mardelle E. (Baker) Lee, age 97, of Massillon, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2021. As were her long time wishes, Mardelle passed away at home with her loving daughter by her side. She was born at the Beach City farmhouse on April 14, 1923 to Lloyd and Gertrude (Knodel) Baker. She married Thomas Altland of Massillon in 1943 who passed away in 1968. She remarried James T. Lee of Massillon in 1970 who passed away in 1982. Mardelle was a 1940 graduate of Beach City High School. She attended Massillon Commercial Institute, and went on to work at Massillon Hardware & Supply, M.H. Martin and K-Mart. She was a longtime, faithful member of Grace United Church of Christ in Massillon and sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of Jackson AARP. Surviving are her children, Beth (Rod) Fete, and Dr. Thomas Altland; stepchildren, Joan (Tom) Wackerly, Judy (Jack) Shonk, and James (Mary Lou) Lee, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a brother, Robert Baker. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; daughter, Terri Pope; and son, David Altland; stepson, Jan Lee; grandson, Scott Woodall; sisters, Norma Hall, Margie Reed, Eileen DeHass; and brothers, Glen, Lloyd Richard and Carl Baker. We could not have asked for a better mom and grandma. She loved her kids and grandkids as much as they loved her. Her funny sense of humor continued until the very end. Special thanks to the staff at Community Hospice and her caregivers. Funeral services will be held at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home, Massillon on February 1, 2021, at 1:00PM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens following the service. Continuing with COVID-19 precautions, all attending will be asked to follow proper social distancing protocol and masks are required. The service will also be live streamed.
