Linda R. Burky, 70, of Massillon, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2024, at Akron General Hospital with her husband by her side. She was born on September 22, 1953, in Milwaukee, WI, to the late Lawrence and Anabel (Burian) Chartier.
Linda was a member of the first graduating class of 1971 at Hamilton High School in Wisconsin. After graduation, she proudly served her country in the United State Air Force as a supply specialist.
After basic training, she was stationed in North Dakota where she met her now husband, Richard “Dick” Burky, who was also in the Air Force. Linda was then stationed in Iceland and then finished her career in Maine before moving to Massillon, Ohio to be with her husband.
Linda and Dick raised their three children together and shared 48 years of marriage.
Linda stayed busy while taking care of her family. She briefly worked as a bus driver for Jackson Local Schools and spent a short time with a trucking company before taking the civil service test to become a postal worker.
She worked for the USPS in Massillon for 30 dedicated years, before retiring. Linda was also a longtime member of St. Barbara Catholic Church.
Linda’s love for traveling didn’t end with her military career; She did extensive international traveling while visiting her daughter who was stationed in England at an Air Force base. They took a bus trip which included stops in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and France.
Linda and Dick also did a cross country trip back in the United States, visiting many national parks and monuments, and stopping at places like the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls.
Above all, Linda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved life and spending time with family at any chance possible. This included her family back in Wisconsin who she would visit frequently throughout the year.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Dick Burky; her daughters Heather (Robert) Menard and Erica (Christopher Whitton) Burky and her son, Richard (Meghan) Burky, II; her beloved granddaughter Emma Burky; and 6 siblings.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her two brothers.
