John Lynn Helm

John Lynn Helm, 73, of Massillon, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, after years of declining health. John was born on February 4, 1948, in Gallipolis, Ohio the son of the late Gene and Betty (Hamer) Helm. He graduated from Wellston High School in 1966 and joined the Navy soon after. He served four years in the Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He attended Rio Grande College for several years and was a life member of TKE Alumni Association. John was a USDA-FSIS consumer safety inspector covering Fresh Mark, Mids Spaghetti, and other processing plants in the area. He was a member of FOE 190, Boy Scouts of America, leader/assistant of Troop 913, O.G.C.A., Massillon Tiger Booster Club, a proud Green Bay Packers Share Holder, and Faith Lutheran Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his Aunt Ava Belles. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Schaller) Helm whom he shared 48 ½ years of marriage; sons, Matt Helm and Josh (Laura) Helm; grandchildren, Tori, Kayleigh, Jackson, Hudson, and Everleigh; great-granddaughter, Joanna; sisters, Nora Lee Ramsey, and Tami (Kelvin) Jolly; his furry companion, Gus; and several nieces, and nephews. A Celebration of John’s life will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021, at 12 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 11-12 p.m. before the service. Those unable to attend the service may click on Facebook Live Streaming at 12 p.m. Continuing with COVID-19 precautions, all attending will be asked to follow proper social distancing protocol and masks are required.
