John F. Best

John F. Best, 73 of Massillon, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 27, 2016. He was born on October 13, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Frederick and Kathryn (Taggart) Best. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ruth E. (Price) Best, his sons, Geoffrey Best and his wife Elizabeth, Eric Best and his wife Marla, and his daughters, Beth Lewis and Tracy Lewis, and his grandchildren, Griffin Best, Graham Best, Miranda Best, Evan Best, Max Umlauf, Sasha Umlauf, Mitchell Umlauf and Ava Umlauf. John was a graduate of Rocky River High School, Hillsdale College, and Eastern Michigan University. He retired after a 30 year career in education, first as a counselor and administrator in Canton City Schools and then as an administrator and vocational director with the North Canton City Schools. John enjoyed the teachers, parents, and, most importantly, the students he worked with in both districts. In retirement he found a new career as an owner of B & B Restaurants, the food service provider for the Legends of Massillon Golf Course. Those who knew John fondly remember his easy-going personality, his acceptance of people from all walks of life, and his love of sailing and motorized vehicles. John loved helping his family and friends; he was skilled in fixing many things. A service to celebrate the life of John Best will take place on Thursday, June 2 at 11:00 am at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with the Reverend Virginia Rila Birks officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and on June 2 one hour before the service. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
