May 8, 1941 — September 14, 2017

James “Jim” R. Detterline, 76, of Dalton, passed away at his home on September 14, 2017 with his family by his side. Jim was born on May 8, 1941 in Massillon to the late Harold and Dorothy (Fisher) Detterline. He married Barbara DeHoff on July 17, 1979 and they shared 38 loving years together. Jim was a retired school teacher for Canton and Massillon city schools and he was a Deputy with the Stark County Sheriff’s Reserve for over 30 years. He was also a past member of the Massillon Lion’s Club, a season ticket holder for the Massillon Tigers for over 50 years and an avid model train enthusiast. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara; daughters Amanda (Jed) Lindsay and Jennifer (Adam) Gibson; grandchildren Nathan Lindsay, Morgan Lindsay, Andrew Gibson and Elena Gibson; and sister Carol Heckathorn. Jim was preceded in death by his brother-in-law William Heckathorn. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Funeral services will be held Monday September 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Mishler officiating.
