Gene Hamilton, 85, of Massillon, Ohio passed away on March 8, 2024. Gene was born on October 31, 1938 to the late Edgar and Muriel Hamilton. Gene was a life long resident of Massillon Ohio growing up on the west side. He loved his town and shared memories of his youth of Saturday matinee cowboy movies at the then Massillon theaters, of the Weslin, Grant and Lincoln Theaters. He hung out and worked at Herm and Rays with the rest of Massillon’s young adults that were into fast cars with white wall tires that shined through and through.
Gene was a 1956 graduate of Washington High School. His mathematic and problem solving skills led him to a career in the printing industry as an estimator at Danner Press concluding his working career in Akron Ohio at the Rohrich Corporation. He enjoyed golfing with his buddies and his Kentucky Lake fishing trips. Gene followed the local High School football and basketball teams in addition to his beloved Browns and Guardians.
He was a good dad supporting his three daughters in their young endeavors from helping to deliver those colossal Sunday newspapers by being the designated driver, but only after his MORNING COFFEE, to cheering his girls on in their softball and basketball games to their half time band performances. Gene was his wife‘s handyman, landscaper and partner in crime. His presence and his wit will be missed by all.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carolyn (Edwards) Hamilton; children Laura (Joe) Oktavec, Christine (Rich) Decker, and Janette (Bryan Friend) Hamilton; grandchildren, Lindsay (Daniel) Moore, Brian (Amelia) Oktavec, Jack Oktavec, Jordan (Mike Bragalone) Decker and Kylie Decker; great grandson, Carter Moore; and brother, James (Karen) Hamilton; and a host of extended family and friends.
