Ernest J. McCarty, Sr., 91, of Perry Township, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017. Ernest was born on February 7, 1925 in Dellroy, Ohio the son of the late Wilbur and Sylvia (Moreland) McCarty. Ernest was a U.S. Navy veteran and proudly served his country during WWII. He owned and operated Ernie's Place on S. Erie Street then worked on the railroad for L.T.V. Steel and retired after 23 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #5047 in Navarre. Ernest enjoyed woodworking, and built his own house. He was a member of Holy Family Parish (St. Clement's) in Navarre where he volunteered at Bingo. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters. He is survived by his wife Barbara (Tournoux) McCarty whom he shared 61 years of marriage; children, Cynthia (Roger) Remenaric, Carrie (Ronald) Fincher, Cheryl (Daniel) Axe, Ernest J. McCarty, Jr., Amy (David) Sutton, Patricia (Eric) Putt, Mary Beth (Steve) Lohmueller; sisters, Lucille Albaugh and Mae Gaines; 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Hospice and the V.A. aides from Interim Health Care for their compassion and care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish (St. Clement's) in Navarre. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Massillon.
