Darreyl "Little Gus" Lamont Turner

February 24, 1968 — September 3, 2021

In Loving Memory of Darreyl “Little Gus” Lamont Turner Darreyl L. Turner departed this life suddenly on Friday, September 03, 2021. He was born in Canton, Ohio to the late Loretta Turner and Louis Wartley. The late Joseph Russell was tremendously instrumental in raising Darreyl from a toddler and was given the honor being his father also. Although he was born in Canton, Darreyl was a Tiger through and through and loved his basketball. At Washington High School Darreyl was a 3-year letterman in Basketball, averaging 24 points a game. Upon graduating, Darreyl became one of the leading basketball scores in W.H.S. history. He currently sits as the school’s 6th all-time scorer. In his senior year he achieved All-County and All-Ohio honors. He was employed by McDonalds as a cook. His interest varied, but Darreyl did enjoy his sports, good music, history and spiritual sermons. We all know that Darreyl enjoyed knowledge and if he had a debate with you know that you had better study up before you spoke. In addition to his parents, Darreyl was preceded in death by his brothers; Johnnie Michael Turner, Ronald Wartley and sister, Glenda Wartley. He is survived by his children Shawanda Townsley and Kashous Lamont Turner; grandchildren, Ka’Vion Maurice Turner, Ta’Lia Loretta LaShell Turner, Kashous Lamont Turner Jr., Aretha Maleigha Turner and Kaliyah Ann Marie Turner; sisters, Anna (Charles) Perry and Darlene (Clark) Bryant; Brothers, Paul Turner, Darrell Wartley, Louis (Regina) Wartley Jr., Donald Wartley and David Wartley. Also, Uncle Edward (Judy) Grier; step-mother Regina Dixon Wartley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The Turner family would like to extend our gratitude for the love/concern you have expressed thorough hospital visits, telephone calls, prayers, cards, flowers, food, condolences and sympathy. You made a difference in this difficult time. Thank you and may God bless and keep you. A special thanks to Carolyn Grizzard for all that she gave . . . Due to the perilous times of COVID-19 it is the family’s wishes that services be private and that condolences can be sent to P.O. Box 1387 Massillon, OH 44648.
