Arthur H. Monigold, age 89, of Massillon, passed away Friday, October 17, 2008 at Rose Lane Health Center following a short illness. He was born February 5, 1919 in Massillon to the late Wilson S. and Florence B. Monigold. He retired from Republic Steel in Massillon after nearly 40 years as a crane operator and also was employed by the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad, Rupp Construction, and the P J Bordner Company. Arthur served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He was a long-time member of the Massillon Salvation Army and a life-long Stark County resident. Arthur was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years Mary Jane Monigold in 1991, son David M. Monigold, and an infant grandson. He is survived by seven children and their spouses: John A. (Pat) Monigold of North Lawrence; James W. Monigold of Massillon; Major Molly (Ernie) Koenemund of Pomona, New York; Stephan E. (Pixie) Monigold of Navarre; Martty (Trent) Trotter of Navarre; Sue (Bill) Matta of North Lawrence; Sean A. (Michele) Monigold of Canton; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and dear friend Ocie Swisher of Massillon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Arnold Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon with Major Ernest C. Koenemund of the Salvation Army and Pastor Timothy Mishler of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at East Greenville Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
