Alexander G. Matie

Alexander George Matie 1935 – 2019 Age 84, of Massillon, passed away quietly on Monday, August 19th, 2019. Born on January 25, 1935 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, he was the son of parents, Stella (deceased) and Alexander Matie (deceased). Alexander “Al” married Therese (Jordan) Matie on January 30, 1954 and they were married for over 66 years. Together, they raised a loving family of seven children; Joseph P. Matie (deceased), Marie Frenz of Brentwood, Tennessee, Marilyn Matie-Speight, (deceased), Mark Matie, of Celina, Texas and spouse, Jennifer, Anthony Matie of Columbus, Ohio, Michelle Matie of Plano, Texas and Deborah Butterfield and spouse, Scott of Massillon Ohio. Al is survived by his fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three brothers; Phillip Matie, George Matie and John Matie, all of Massillon. In addition to his parent, Al was preceded in death by his brother Daniel Matie Al Matie dubbed “Big Al” by his friends loved sports and was a “natural” in the game of baseball. He was offered to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies but he turned it down to raise his family. He was inducted into the Canton Amateur Hall of Fame for softball. Al enjoyed a 30-year career as Purchasing Agent for Union Drawn/LTV Steel. After retiring from LTV, he continued managing real estate investments he shared with his wife, Therese for over 40 years. He was a true movie buff and loved to talk politics, too. Al had a strong work ethic and was a great provider. He never asked for thanks for all that he did for his family and others. Al was happiest he when was spending time with his family. Al was a deep thinker, a man of very few words but possessed a silent kindness. But, when he spoke his words were full of wisdom. His wife, family and friends will deeply miss him. Therese and her children will be receiving family and friends at the residence listed below on Saturday, August 31st, 2019 between the hours of 1 pm – 6 pm.
